Over the coming sessions, you will get an overview of the philosophy and history of this ancient practice. Also discussed will be various aspects of differing forms and schools of thought. We will begin with the Six Brocades which encompasses both a movement and breath control practice to ensure that participants have a clear and accessible form to begin practicing on your own at home.
Qigong is easy and enjoyable, does not require a major time commitment, and can be done almost anywhere.
What is Qi Gung?
Qi Gung is more than exercise; it’s a healing discipline for the body and mind, both gentle and profound, and accessible to everyone. Even people who have physical challenges or of advanced age can safely participate, as Qi Gung helps to re-introduce mobility and relaxation.
On the physical level, Qi Gung is a way to prevent disease and improve health. After a Qi Gung session, people describe their body as feeling revitalized, warm, energized, and relaxed. Numerous studies in China have documented the positive effects of qigong on various cardio-vascular diseases, digestion, kidney functions, bone density, etc. Qi Gung is also well known to improve blood circulation and strengthen the immune system. Many people have commented on how problems related to fatigue and low-energy and stiffness have been greatly alleviated.
Qi Gung also helps in stabilizing the mind. For centuries in China Qi Gung has been used as a tool to build the foundation for sitting meditation. Meditation practitioners who have to sit still for long periods of time can really benefit from Qi Gung. By undoing blockages and allowing a more fluid circulation of the internal energy (or qi), Qi Gung increases our ability to fully inhabit our body and be present at every moment.
Qi Gung is a wonderful way to reintegrate the body after long hours of static concentrated work. Working on computers is mentally challenging by constantly pushing the boundaries of concentration yet it is also physically stagnating by demanding hours of staring at a screen while sitting or standing. Under such conditions it can be difficult to maintain health, clarity and productivity. Without a healthy body, working with the mind can be challenging.
